The fear of a severe injury for Dries Mertens has turned out to be unfounded. The Napoli attacker showed himself again at training on Monday.
Mertens made his entrance on Saturday in the 69th minute, leaving the field seven minutes later. The brief raid and the apparently nasty ankle injury caused concern for the attacker. Undoubtedly, Belgium was waiting with extra attention for news from Italy because of the approaching European Championship.
Napoli was unable to provide a definite answer on the seriousness of the injury on Sunday. But two days after the duel with Spezia, The Red Devils can breathe a sigh of relief. Mertens signed up for the Napoli group training.
The return of Mertens is also excellent news for the Neapolitans themselves. There is still a lot at stake in the last three rounds of play. Napoli is heading for a Champions League ticket as number four in Italy. Still, the margin compared to Juventus is small.
